Greasley Parish Council Remains Unchanged Following Local Government Reorganisation Announcement

We appreciate that the changes being discussed are complex and can be difficult to follow. Local Government Reorganisation affects several layers of local government, and even those working within county, borough and parish councils have been navigating a significant amount of information as the proposals have developed. It is therefore completely understandable that there has been some uncertainty about what the changes mean for Greasley.

The most important point to remember is that these changes affect county and borough councils, not parish councils.

Greasley Parish Council will continue to serve our community, represent local residents and deliver the services and facilities that people know us for. While some of the larger councils responsible for services such as highways, planning, waste collection and social care will change, Greasley Parish Council remains unchanged.

What Happens Next?

While the Government has announced its preferred direction for Local Government Reorganisation, discussions between Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, the district and borough councils, and Government are ongoing. As a result, the proposal that would see Greasley Parish fall within two different unitary authorities is not yet final and may still be subject to change as the process continues.

Greasley Parish Council has consistently expressed its preference for the parish to remain within a single unitary authority, recognising the benefits of having one principal council serving our whole community. However, whatever the final outcome, our commitment to Greasley will not change.

We will continue to work in the best interests of all our residents, wherever they live within Greasley Parish, and will continue to represent the whole parish with the same dedication and commitment as we always have.
