New-Look Gym Imminent Following Major Investment at Greasley Sports & Community Centre

Working in partnership with Pulse Fitness, the Parish Council has commissioned a full refurbishment of the gym, replacing the existing equipment with a modern range of strength, free weights, cardio and functional training equipment. The project will also give the gym a fresh new look and create a more welcoming environment for members, whether they are just beginning their fitness journey or are regular gym users.

A key focus of the refurbishment has been accessibility and inclusivity. Much of the new equipment has been selected with accessible features that will benefit a wide range of users, helping people of different ages, abilities and fitness levels to exercise comfortably and confidently. The improved layout and equipment choices reflect the Parish Council’s commitment to making the gym an inviting space for everyone.

While the gym is being transformed with state-of-the-art equipment, Greasley Parish Council says its vision goes beyond simply creating another fitness facility. The aim is to provide a community-focused environment rather than offering a sterile gym experience, the Council wants members to enjoy a friendly atmosphere where familiar faces, encouragement and a sense of belonging are just as important as the equipment itself.

The refurbished gym will also play an important role in supporting health and wellbeing across the wider area. Following the closure of Broxtowe Borough Council’s gym in Kimberley, Greasley Parish Council has been working with the Borough Council and Liberty Leisure to help ensure vital services remain available in the north of Broxtowe. The upgraded facilities will enable Liberty Leisure to continue delivering GP referral sessions and low-impact exercise classes from Greasley Sports & Community Centre, helping residents who rely on these programmes to stay active and improve their health.

Following requests from members, the centre has recently introduced personal training sessions, providing tailored support, expert coaching and structured fitness plans to help people achieve their individual health and wellbeing goals. All memberships include access to the full range of classes on offer, including bootcamp, spin and pilates. Non-members are also welcome to attend classes with pay-as-you-go options available.

To allow the refurbishment to take place, the gym will close on Monday 27 July and reopen on Wednesday 5 August, when members will be able to experience the upgraded facilities for the first time. Classes and community group meetings will still be taking place, but the gym suite will be closed to visitors.

The gym refurbishment is the latest in a series of improvements being made across Greasley Sports & Community Centre. Earlier this year, the Parish Hall underwent extensive insulation works, a full redecoration, and was fitted with acoustic panels to improve sound quality for the many fitness classes, community groups, parties and meetings held in the space.

Further works are already planned, including improvements to the centre’s Committee Room, WC and shower facilities, as Greasley Parish Council continues its commitment to enhancing the building for the benefit of residents.

The Parish Council looks forward to welcoming members back when the refurbished gym officially reopens on Wednesday 5 August and hopes the investment will encourage both existing and new members to discover everything the Centre has to offer.
