Gym Reopened Following Extensive Leak

What initially appeared to be a relatively straightforward issue unfortunately developed into a much more extensive problem than first anticipated. Two separate issues compounded one another, making both the cause of the leak and the necessary repairs considerably more difficult to identify and remedy.

It has taken a significant amount of time, work and, at times, frustration to get everything resolved – but we got there in the end!

We would like to sincerely apologise to our members for the disruption and frustration caused by the closure. We know how important the gym is to our regular users and completely understand the disappointment of finding it unavailable, particularly so soon after our recent refurbishment.

Unfortunately, repairing the source of the problem was only part of the work required before we could safely reopen.

Due to the extent of the water ingress, we also needed to have the electrics checked, assess gym equipment affected by the water, fully dry out the room and then put everything back together before customers could return.

Our priority throughout was to make sure that we did not reopen until we were satisfied that it was safe and appropriate to do so.

Although the gym is now open again, the work is not completely finished. The leak caused damage to parts of the room and we are continuing to work through the necessary repairs and reinstatement.

Some of this may take a little time, so you may notice areas that are not yet quite back to the standard we want them to be. Please bear with us while we continue putting things right.

The gym at Greasley Sports & Community Centre is owned and operated by Greasley Parish Council and is run on a not-for-profit basis. This means that when unexpected problems such as this arise, we have to ensure that works are undertaken not only as quickly as possible, but also efficiently and responsibly.

We are therefore particularly grateful for the support and understanding shown by our members throughout the closure. Our staff have worked hard to deal with a difficult situation, and it has been lovely to see so many customers being kind, patient and supportive towards them. We know the closure has been frustrating, and we genuinely appreciate the way most of our members have responded.

We are incredibly pleased to have the gym back open and will continue working to repair the remaining damage and get everything completely back to normal.
