Road Safety Team

Local residents are being given the chance to make a positive difference to the safety of roads in their area by teaming up with police and Greasley Parish Council.

Volunteers are being encouraged to take part in our new community speed watch scheme.

A community speed watch scheme is a partnership approach consisting of local residents who are willing to volunteer a small amount of their time each week to monitor speeds with a hand-held speed measurement device.

Police will train volunteers to operate the equipment and note down the details of speeding motorists.

Police will follow up by sending warning letters to the registered keepers of offending vehicles, asking for their assistance in keeping speeds down in the local community. Repeat offenders could face further action by the police.

Any residents interested in taking part in the community speed watch scheme in Greasley or who would like to find out more are urged to contact the Clerk on 01773 688848 or via the Contact Us page
