Greasley Parish Council Welcomes Recommendation to Keep Parish Independent
Greasley Parish Council is pleased to read that the Task and Finish Group have unanimously recommended Broxtowe Borough Council not proceed with Option 1 as set out in the second consultation of the Community Governance Review.
Published: 15 November 2024
Instead they recommend that the Borough Council leave the boundaries in the North of the Borough as they are.
This outcome is a clear victory for our residents, whose voices and actions were instrumental in hopefully preserving the identity autonomy, and cherished community of their parish. The report states that “it was evident to the TFG from the consultation responses that there was an overwhelming negative response to proceeding”.
We are especially grateful to the residents of Greasley, who turned out in such large numbers to support their parish. Through speaking at meetings, sending responses to Broxtowe Borough, and engaging with council members and staff, they showed incredible pride in their community. Their strong support highlighted the importance of our parish and, we believe, shaped this decision. It has been their advocacy, love for the community, and their passion for its future that ultimately made this success possible. To see so many speak up for Greasley Parish Council was incredibly moving and it is that mutual respect which drives us to serve them every day.
We also want to recognize the hard work of Greasley Parish Councillors and staff, who stood together through this challenging time to make sure Greasley’s voice was heard. To our loyal staff, who continued their work despite the uncertainty, we extend our deepest thanks.
Greasley Parish Council is proud to serve a community as engaged, vibrant, and supportive as ours. We are committed to earning and keeping the trust of our residents and look forward to continually improving our services, facilities, and overall quality of life in our parish.
Thank you for your support, your pride, and your commitment to Greasley. This victory is one we share with each and every member of our community. Together, we look forward to building a bright and prosperous future for our parish.
Additional updates will be provided following the GAS Committee Meeting on the 25th November.
